In a recent appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” President-elect Donald Trump made waves by stating that he has no intention of appointing a special prosecutor to hunt down former President Joe Biden. It seems even the loudest whistleblower can be a little soft-hearted when it comes to playing the political game. Trump’s comments indicate a shift, at least publically, from the fiery rhetoric of old, leaving many to wonder if this is a tactical retreat or just classic Trump mischief.
During the chat, Kristen Welker brought up Trump’s tough-nosed FBI pick, Kash Patel, who has a friendship with the term “deep state.” Apparently, she was gunning for a scandal hunt right there on national television. No doubt she was salivating at the prospect of hearing about investigations into elite Democrats like Biden and the infamous Hillary Clinton. Instead, viewers got a rather mundane reply from Trump, asserting that investigative decisions would lie with Patel, but leading with an assurance that he wouldn’t be initiating witch hunts a-la the last administration. It’s almost shocking to find that Trump suggests he will be a fair and just president—next thing you know, he’ll be handing out participation trophies to politicians who didn’t corrupt the nation!
Trump did acknowledge that if evidence of wrongdoing was uncovered, well, then the winds may shift. However, the prospect of landing hard on Biden’s alleged transgressions must have slipped from the agenda. So why the back pedal? Is he afraid of rocking the comfy establishment boat that has long put brunches over law and order? Or was it just a clever ploy to get folks on both sides of the aisle always on their toes? After all, nothing says “I’m here for the American people” like avoiding investigations into potential crimes.

In another twist, Welker even called him out on a past statement where he vowed to install a “real special prosecutor” to look into Biden’s so-called corruption. But when confronted with his own words, Trump didn’t flinch. He seemed more interested in securing the country’s future than chasing ghosts of the past. Instead of vowing revenge, he’s apparently angling for a bounce-back from rising crime rates, an open border, and skyrocketing grocery bills. Now that’s a political three-pointer if there ever was one.
Ultimately, the President-elect’s move to focus on economic recovery rather than a Biden crusade might just be a strategic genius move. By concentrating on the issues weighing down the average American, he could easily rope in the reluctant independents and frustrated conservatives alike. Who needs a lengthy investigation into the Biden family’s activities when inflation has become the new boogeyman lurking in every grocery aisle? It appears Trump is trading his vendetta for the economic prowess that won him the hearts of millions. With a game plan like that, who knows? The country might just look up and realize they’re being served more bacon at a lower price. Now, that’s a platform even the most hardened Democrat would have to respect.
