Trump Surges Ahead in Polls as Harris Struggles to Gain Ground

After two weeks of Vice President Kamala Harris trying to rally the troops and climb the polls, it looks like former President Donald Trump has decided it’s time to remind everyone who’s still king of the political jungle. New polling data reveals Trump is regaining ground faster than a cheetah on a caffeine high, leaving Harris in his dust once again.

Fresh surveys from CNBC and Rasmussen, both released on Tuesday, showcase Trump with leads of 2% and 5%, respectively. The All-America Economic Survey, courtesy of CNBC, puts Trump ahead of Harris at 48% to 46%. The real kicker? Voters are firmly in Trump’s corner when it comes to the economy, favoring him by a whopping 2-to-1 margin. The numbers indicate that Harris’s freshly minted campaign hasn’t rattled Trump’s impressive standing with swing voters. It seems they’d rather trust the man who wears red ties over the woman who wears a permanent frown.

The Rasmussen findings are just as tasty for Trump. In a direct face-off with Harris, he has managed to maintain strong support. However, when independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. enters the fray, Trump’s numbers jump up by 3% since July to a cool 49%, while both Harris and RFK are watching their support slide. With a margin of error of +/- 2%, Trump’s substantial lead stands like a robust oak tree in a forest of flimsy saplings.

Now, before all the Harris supporters start throwing tantrums, there’s a sliver of positivity in her camp too. The CNBC poll indicates that satisfaction among Democrats regarding her nomination has skyrocketed to 81%, a stark contrast from the mere 33% at the lowest moment of Biden’s own failing campaign. She’s also seeing a lift among younger voters, flipping a 2% deficit into a 10% advantage. However, this youthful goodwill is undercut by a staggering 12% increase in support for Trump from the 35-49 age group, where he now leads by 9%. The math just isn’t adding up for her.

Experts indicate that the race has shifted gears with Trump remaining a formidable competitor, rather than just a referendum on his previous time in office. Analysts highlight that Harris is still dragging the weight of the Biden administration, which isn’t exactly a feather on her cap. Her task now is to repackage herself as an independent force rather than a mere echo of her boss. The problem is, that’s a lot of baggage to haul when Trump’s campaign is more like a well-oiled machine.

As usual, the economy continues to top the list of voter concerns, followed closely by immigration—two areas where Trump shines like a diamond. A large swath of Americans believe they’ll fare better financially under another Trump presidency, while Harris finds herself with only 48% of her own party believing she could improve economic conditions. Even worse, 42% of Democrats think voting for her would make little difference.

Before the Harris hoopla, only a handful of voters were undecided between Trump and Biden. Now, independent voters who can’t quite make up their minds sit at a hefty 20%. Whichever campaign manages to charm this undecided segment will likely take the win come November. One can only imagine how their charm offensive will measure up against Trump’s iconic “Make America Great Again” message.
