In a bold and much-needed move, President Donald Trump has hinted at taking control over the chaotic streets of Washington, D.C., responding to the escalating crime that liberal leaders seem either unwilling or unable to curb. It’s about time someone stands up and says enough is enough with the left’s failed policies that keep the capital city in a perpetual state of turmoil. For too long, D.C. residents have suffered under misguided leadership that prioritizes political correctness over public safety.
As President Trump seems to be contemplating, it’s time to repeal “DC Home Rule,” and have DC’s laws made by Congress—consistent with Article I, Section 8, Clause 17 of the Constitution

It’s baffling to see how unchecked crime continues to grow under progressive governance, while innocent citizens bear the brunt. Trump’s proposal for a federal intervention in D.C. should be a welcome change for all who are tired of living in fear and dealing with the incompetence of local leaders. While Washington’s mayor tries to play nice with the administration, our President aims for a safer, more efficient capital — a vision the left never manages to deliver.
The Home Rule has been nothing but a leash, restraining Congress from taking real action in the District. Congressional oversight should return in full force, as suggested by top voices pushing to rescind D.C.’s failed self-governance experiment. The Founding Fathers laid the constitutional groundwork for such an intervention, and it’s high time we put it to good use.
Anyone watching the decay of our capital can see there’s a desperate need for President Trump’s strategic oversight. He’s not afraid to pull the trigger on effective changes when looking at D.C.’s inability to self-govern. In the face of a socialist threat creeping from candidates who openly reject our great American values, reclaiming D.C. is more crucial now than ever.
This idea of a federal takeover is one conservatives can rally behind. Why let socialist ideologues further dismantle our nation’s heritage and let crime reign free? America deserves a capital run with integrity and strength, not mired in liberal incompetence. Isn’t it time that our capital reflects the greatness of our nation?
