President Trump’s bold Gaza peace proposal is exactly the kind of no-nonsense leadership this crisis has begged for, and Americans should cheer a plan that forces Hamas to disarm or face consequences. The 21-point framework, unveiled alongside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, aims to return hostages, neutralize terrorist infrastructure, and create an international transition mechanism to stabilize Gaza — not reward terror.
The proposal’s backbone is simple: disarm Hamas, get hostages home, and rebuild Gaza under credible international oversight while keeping those who attacked Israel from power. Trump and Netanyahu made clear that if Hamas refuses, Israel will have U.S. backing to finish the job — a necessary deterrent that finally applies force to words.
It’s encouraging to hear Sen. John Fetterman, a Democrat, tell Greta Van Susteren that rewarding Hamas by recognizing Palestinian statehood only fuels the narrative of sacrifice Hamas depends on and that we should demand hostages be freed first. Real leadership crosses party lines, and Fetterman’s stance shows even some on the left understand you cannot bankroll terror and call it peace.
Meanwhile, too many Western capitals have made the grave mistake of rushing to recognize Palestinian statehood while the terror apparatus remains intact, sending precisely the wrong message to extremists. Those moves are being interpreted by Hamas as a prize for violence, not a pathway to peace — and that must stop.
Conservatives should loudly back Trump’s firmness here: no concessions, no legitimizing terrorists, and no reconstruction money funneled through the same hands that build tunnels and plant IEDs. If our leaders won’t protect Israeli lives and American interests, the world will pay the price in emboldened jihadists and more hostage tragedies.
That said, the diplomatic toolbox in Trump’s plan is smart: offer rebuilding and normalcy to Gazans once a credible alternative to Hamas is in place, not before. Rebuilding should be conditioned, transparent, and supervised by allies who will ensure aid reaches civilians and not the terrorists who perpetrated the Oct. 7 atrocities.
Patriotic Americans must demand Congress and the media stop fetishizing gestures that reward violence and instead support policies that protect civilians, secure hostages, and eliminate the terrorist threat. Let no one mistake firmness for cruelty — standing with Israel and insisting on Hamas’s removal is the only honest path to lasting peace and security in the region.
