Of course the usual suspects in the media screamed “gaudy” and “tone-deaf” within hours, as if showing pride in American achievement is a moral failing rather than a statement of confidence. Their outrage is predictable and performative, timed to manufacture scandal rather than offer a substantive critique of policy or governance.
On the right, commentators like Tom Shillue and the Gutfeld! panel rightly defended the president’s prerogative to style his own house and to project the image he thinks best represents a reborn America. Conservatives understand that the Oval Office is the president’s stage, and Trump is using it to remind the world that America will no longer apologize for its success.
Trump even bragged that visiting foreign leaders “freak out” at the grandeur, and whether you see it as showmanship or statecraft, projecting strength is a longstanding diplomatic tool that gets results. If pomp and polish make adversaries think twice and make friends sit up straighter at the table, then that’s a foreign policy win in plain sight.
Let the critics clutch their pearls while hardworking Americans get on with their lives and their jobs. This is a president who understands symbolism and isn’t afraid to use it to restore national pride, and for millions of patriots that’s exactly the kind of unapologetic leadership we voted for.
