Senator Joni Ernst blasted Iran’s nuclear ambitions, saying it would be “stupid” for Iran to keep enriching uranium after President Trump warned them not to. Trump recently hit three of Iran’s top nuclear sites with precision strikes, wiping out their ability to build bombs.
The U.S. military destroyed Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan facilities, which Trump called “massive precision strikes.” He vowed more attacks if Iran doesn’t end its threats. Iowa’s Republican leaders rushed to back the president, calling it a “right move” to stop terrorism and “keep America safe.”
Ernst, a combat veteran, stressed Iran must never threaten America with nukes. Other GOP lawmakers like Chuck Grassley and Mariannette Miller-Meeks agreed, saying Iran sponsors terror and can’t be trusted. Miller-Meeks, a retired Army colonel, cheered Trump for sending a “clear message.”
But Democrats like Nathan Sage and J.D. Scholten criticized the strikes, saying more war isn’t the answer. They demanded that Ernst focus on protecting Iowa troops instead. Yet Trump’s supporters argue the action avoids drawn-out conflicts, unlike past administrations.
Iran’s enrichment program was hidden behind Obama-era deals, allowing them to rush toward nuclear weapons. Trump ended this by targeting underground facilities like Fordow, which previous agreements protected. His team says this ends Iran’s immediate nuclear threat.
The president warned Iran will face “far greater” destruction if they don’t surrender. Critics fear escalation, but Ernst and allies believe Trump’s strength deters Iran’s aggression. The White House credits the strikes with stopping a global threat head-on.
Republicans say diplomacy failed under Biden, who eased sanctions on Iran. Trump’s strikes signal a return to “peace through strength,” a slogan popular with conservatives. They argue this approach protects Israel, our allies, and American lives.
Ernst’s blunt warning to Iran reflects a growing GOP consensus: Weakness invites threats, while bold action keeps enemies at bay. As tensions rise, Iowa’s leaders stand united against Iran’s nuclear ambitions, trusting Trump to defend national security.
