In a fiery exchange on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley didn’t hold back in criticizing GOP Sen. Tommy Tuberville for his alleged obstruction of military promotions. Haley slammed Tuberville, accusing him of using military families as political pawns and perpetuating political games in Congress.
Military leaders have accused Tuberville of jeopardizing national security by blocking the passage of hundreds of promotions that would otherwise receive unanimous consent in the Senate. Tuberville, however, has pushed back against these claims, arguing that he is preventing the swift passage of a policy that would allow the military to fund out-of-state abortions for its members if the procedure is blocked at their stationed location.
Despite her critical remarks, Haley clarified that she does not agree with the Department of Defense’s policy and pledged to put an end to it if she were to be elected president. She emphasized the importance of going through Congress to implement such changes, highlighting the three branches of government as the proper avenue for achieving policy goals.
