A beautiful young Ukrainian refugee came to America seeking safety from war. Instead, 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska was brutally murdered by a career criminal on a Charlotte train. She had just finished her shift at a local pizzeria and texted her boyfriend she was coming home. That text would be her last.
The monster who killed her is Decarlos Brown, a repeat offender with over 14 arrests in 12 years. He spent five years in prison for armed robbery but was back on the streets. Brown walked up behind Iryna and stabbed her three times in an unprovoked attack. There was no security on the train to protect innocent passengers.
Instead of demanding justice, CNN went into damage control mode. Liberal talking heads like Van Jones accused conservatives of race-mongering for wanting answers. They turned a horrific murder into a political talking point to protect their failed policies. This is exactly what Americans are sick of from the mainstream media.
Iryna fled a war zone in Ukraine where she lived in bomb shelters. She came to America believing she would be safe from violence. Our broken justice system failed her completely. A dangerous criminal with a long rap sheet was free to hunt innocent people on public transportation.
Charlotte officials admitted they have no real security on their trains. The mayor only promised more security after this innocent girl was already dead. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is investigating the city’s failure to protect riders. If Democrat mayors cannot keep people safe, they do not deserve federal funding.
North Carolina Republicans called this murder completely preventable. They are absolutely right. Brown should have been locked up permanently after his long history of violent crimes. Instead, soft-on-crime policies put him back on the streets to kill again.
This is what happens when Democrats prioritize criminals over victims. They make excuses for monsters while innocent people die. Iryna Zarutska deserved to live safely in the country that promised her freedom. She deserved leaders who would protect her from predators.
Every American should be outraged by this senseless murder. We must demand real consequences for violent criminals and real security for law-abiding citizens. Iryna’s death cannot be in vain if we finally get serious about stopping these preventable tragedies.
