UN Women Scramble to Back Israeli Women: Too Little, Too Late?

Over the weekend, UN Women made news for finally acknowledging the support of Israeli women following the October 7 terrorist attack by Hamas. While also expressing concern for Palestinian women, the entity made a late post stating that “all women, Israeli women, Palestinian women, as all others, are entitled to a life lived in safety and free from violence.” Talk about dragging their feet!

It took a whole second paragraph of a statement, which started off by lamenting the return of fighting between Israel and Hamas, to even mention Hamas. And even then, it was only in passing! The UN Women’s account made a post indicating, “We unequivocally condemn the brutal attacks by Hamas on Israel on 7 October. We are alarmed by the numerous accounts of gender-based atrocities and sexual violence during those attacks.” Shockingly, this post came nearly two months after the attack! That’s the UN Women for you, always on the ball.

Users did not hold back in reminding them how much of a half-hearted effort this was. Many took to social media to call them out, with some even pointing out the UN’s habit of tying Israelis and Palestinians together in their statements. Finally, people are seeing through their biased and wishy-washy agenda!

And it doesn’t end there. UN Women’s responses, or lack thereof, show a pattern of prioritizing certain issues over others. They were quick to highlight International Lesbian Day and even spouted off about “trans lesbians” before acknowledging the attacks on Israeli women. They even deleted a post on Instagram calling out Hamas, only to later double down on dismissing the need for a more direct response.

CNN Anchor Bianna Golodryga called out Deputy U.N. Women Executive Director Sarah Hendriks for not specifically condemning Hamas and their actions on October 7th. Hendriks stuck to the same non-answer she always does, focusing on reports from Israeli investigators. Typical deflection tactics!

The UN Women’s one-sided focus on Palestinians is especially glaring, especially considering the inhumane actions of Hamas. But they don’t seem to care. State Department Spokesperson Matt Miller spoke about Hamas’s refusal to release female hostages, and White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan also addressed the issue, pointing out that Hamas is the reason for the pause in hostilities ending.

The lack of a timely and sincere response from UN Women is just a small part of the larger issue with the United Nations’ bias against Israel. The United Nations has a long history of being anti-Israel, and their one-sided focus on Palestinians in the recent conflict is just another example of that.

It’s clear that the UN Women and the UN in general have a lot of explaining to do. The complicity of the UN and the allegations of abuse at the hands of one of their teachers is deeply troubling. It’s time for a thorough investigation into the UN’s actions during the Israel-Hamas conflict and for them to be held accountable for their biased and inadequate responses.

The UN and its affiliated organizations can’t hide behind words and empty gestures any longer. It’s time to demand real action and justice for the victims of Hamas’s atrocities. #Accountability #Justice #SupportIsraeliWomen
