The drama kicked off when Marko Elez, a staffer under the watchful eye of DOGE, was forced to resign after the Wall Street Journal revealed that his previous social media activity wasn’t exactly in line with the mainstream narrative. Despite being approved by a federal judge for a government job sensitive enough to give him access to the U.S. Treasury’s payment system, Elez found himself on the outs when his older tweets resurfaced, showcasing views that today’s delicate flowers deem unacceptable.

Holding true to the befuddled nature of modern politics, Trump chose to lean on Vance’s judgment in this matter, effectively saying that the Vice President had his back on this head-scratcher. And after a whirlwind of controversy, it appears the social media martyr may just find his seat back at DOGE, with Musk publicly declaring that Elez’s return is chalked up to the long-standing adage that to err is human, to forgive divine.
In a world where sensitivity reigns supreme and the digital mob can easily dictate careers, the move to reinstate Elez stands out as a refreshing reminder that perhaps not every misstep on social media should result in complete annihilation. It is a strong signal that rational thought and second chances may still exist in the political arena, much to the chagrin of the easily offended. One has to wonder if this might be the start of a trend: common sense over cancel culture.
