In a crucial moment for America’s economic stance, Vice President J.D. Vance emerged as a true patriot, saving President Trump’s visionary tariff policy from a misguided Senate rebellion. In a move straight out of our Founding Fathers’ playbook, Vance cast a tiebreaking vote that stopped a foolish regulation dead in its tracks. Let’s not forget, this resolution was backed by not just the usual crowd of Democrats, but also some so-called Republicans who seem more interested in appeasing globalist interests than standing up for American jobs.
One would think that figures like Rand Paul, who often champions libertarian ideals, would understand the strategic value of tariffs. Yet, he and his fellow establishment allies like Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski seem woefully out of touch. They had aligned with anti-Trump forces, potentially compromising our nation’s economic sovereignty in a bid to play nice with some of our less-than-fair trade partners.

It’s high time more leaders embraced the wisdom of James Madison on tariffs and trade. Madison didn’t draft the Constitution as mere historical relic; he intended it to protect the nation against foreign manipulation through decisive action like tariffs. Today, it’s countries like China that stand ready to exploit our open markets while blocking theirs. Madison’s historic stance tells us exactly what he’d think of Trump’s tariffs—they’re not just constitutional, they’re necessary.
So why the backlash from some Republicans? It boils down to a simple choice between catering to elites who want to see an America that bows to international pressures or standing firm for an America that commands respect and fair trade. This drama in the Senate laid bare those differences in stark relief.
Vance’s decisive action served as a reminder of the Constitution’s enduring strength and its intentions to ensure America remains free from foreign economic domination. The liberals and establishment Republicans might squirm, but the real question burning in the hearts of true patriots is, “Why aren’t more standing up like Vance?” Our Constitution and our country deserve defenders committed to upholding our interests, not selling them off to the highest bidder.
