Viral Hoaxes: The Dangerous Lies Distracting Us from Real History

YouTube clips like the one shared by the Hodgetwins—claiming a Black TikToker said white people “used to eat Blacks for their energy”—deserve a hard look before we treat them as news. I dug through major coverage and credible reporting and found the story lives mainly on short-form social posts and reaction channels, not in any reputable historical scholarship or mainstream news investigations; this pattern mirrors other viral cannibalism scares that have been debunked after spreading on social platforms.

Let’s be blunt: outrage clicks, and social media rewards the most sensational claims, true or not. We’ve seen whole hoaxes about immigrants eating pets and wild conspiracy memes propagated across TikTok and X that had real-world consequences before fact-checks caught up, and this latest claim fits that same mold of viral nonsense.

Conservative readers should reject both the lie and the lazy, performative rage that amplifies it — and we should also reject those on the left who weaponize absurd allegations to grind an ideological axe. The left’s cultural institutions frequently tolerate, then amplify, divisive social-media theater while calling for censorship in other contexts; that double standard undermines both truth and social cohesion.

There is no excuse for minimizing the real, brutal history of slavery and segregation by trading it for sensational, ahistorical claims. Honest conservatives honor the truth about America’s past while insisting that real history—not viral fiction—should guide our national conversation about race, policy, and restitution.

Big tech and the media platforms that profit from viral chaos must be held to account. If a claim this incendiary can spiral around the internet with zero corroboration, tech executives and content moderators have failed their users and their country — and consumers of media ought to be demanding better standards and faster corrections.

Hardworking Americans want a country where facts matter and where civic pride is built on truth, not theater. Call out the nonsense, demand responsible reporting, and insist that our public square reward honesty over hysteria; that’s how we protect both free speech and a healthy, united republic.
