Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares is standing strong with the Trump administration’s push to crack down on illegal immigration and violent crime. He says federal partners have ramped up efforts to take down dangerous gangs like MS-13, which has made Virginians safer. Over 340 arrests have already happened in the state, including 28 MS-13 members and 19 from the Tren de Aragua gang. Miyares credits the improved teamwork between state and federal authorities for these results.
Governor Glenn Youngkin is backing this tough approach by targeting sanctuary cities. He plans to cut state funding from any local government that refuses to cooperate with ICE. Youngkin blasted liberal policies that let violent criminals loose instead of handing them over for deportation. He pointed to a recent case where an illegal immigrant rapist was released multiple times by Fairfax County officials. “Sanctuary cities put politics over safety,” Youngkin said. “We’re done letting that happen here.”
Miyares didn’t hold back either. He accused some local leaders of acting like social workers instead of law enforcement. During a ride-along with ICE, he saw firsthand how sanctuary rules let gang members and drug dealers walk free. “These policies are shameful,” he said. “They’re endangering every family in Virginia.” Fairfax County leaders refused to answer questions about reversing their sanctuary policies, but Supervisor Pat Herrity called for change. “Residents will demand action once funding’s at risk,” he warned.
The Trump administration’s focus on deporting criminal illegals is a night-and-day difference from Biden’s weak policies, according to Miyares. He says the Justice Department now actually helps states fight crime instead of ignoring it. With federal raids busting up gangs and stopping fentanyl trafficking, Virginians are finally seeing progress. Miyares praised ICE and Homeland Security for sharing critical intelligence that local cops lacked before.
While liberals complain about immigration enforcement, Miyares says it’s about protecting Americans. He slammed left-wing judges and prosecutors for coddling criminals. One MS-13 member charged with rape was given bond by a soft judge instead of being deported. “Cooperation saves lives,” Miyares stressed. He urged all cities to follow the law and work with federal agents. The message is clear: Virginia won’t tolerate sanctuary nonsense anymore. Safety comes first, and the Trump team is delivering results.
