White House Waffles on Israel Backing, Netanyahu Snubs Biden!

On Monday, the United States decided not to veto a wimpy resolution from the United Nations Security Council, asking for a ceasefire in the never-ending Israel-Hamas conflict. So, Matt the news guy talked about how Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu bailed on a visit to the White House like it was a bad Tinder date. The White House, in a display of shock that even the most dramatic soap opera characters would envy, called it an “artificial crisis manufactured.”

Then, White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby tried to spin the whole thing like a top in a playground game. He said that not vetoing the resolution doesn’t mean the U.S. is changing its tune on supporting Israel. He even tried to pull off the ol’ switcheroo and claimed that not condemning Hamas in the resolution makes it a pro-Israel choice.

Throughout a press briefing, Kirby got questioned more times than a suspect in an interrogation room. He tried to downplay the resolution, calling it “nonbinding” and saying it won’t even affect Israel’s ability to keep taking on Hamas.

Then, when reporters suggested that the U.S. isn’t backing up Israel anymore, Kirby got huffy and puffy, insisting that the U.S. still has Israel’s back. He even claimed that there’s no change in policy with this wishy-washy resolution. And if that wasn’t enough, Blaise Misztal from the Jewish Institute for National Security of America put in his two cents, saying that U.S. and Israeli interests aren’t helped by the U.S. allowing the resolution without making Hamas release hostages.

CBS News’ Ed O’Keefe dared to ask if President Biden is caving to pressure from his own party and the public to throw Israel under the bus. Kirby got all worked up, saying the president makes decisions based on what’s best for the U.S. and that we’re still ride-or-die for Israel.

Reporters grilled Kirby about the strained relationship between Netanyahu and President Biden. Kirby said they’ve known each other for ages and don’t agree on everything, but they both care about Israel’s security. It’s like a passive-aggressive family dinner every time they’re together.

Kirby couldn’t even confirm if the U.S. will have Israel’s back at the United Nations in the future. It’s like he’s keeping his cards close to his chest in a high-stakes poker game. And when reporters asked about potential domestic issues in Israel leading to Netanyahu’s cancellations, Kirby clammed up tighter than a safe.
