Wisconsin in the Balance Trump Wins State Baldwin Keeps Senate Seat by Sliver

In the 2024 election, Wisconsin turned into a head-scratching battleground, giving Donald Trump a narrow victory over Kamala Harris by less than a percentage point. This affirmed that the voters in the Badger State retain some common sense—at least when it comes to presidential candidates. However, the Senate race took a different turn, allowing Democratic incumbent Tammy Baldwin to cling on to her seat, also by a razor-thin margin. Behind this unexpected twist was a third-party candidate, effectively aided by Democrats, which siphoned off vital votes that could have gone to the GOP challenger Eric Hovde. Had Hovde replicated Trump’s support levels, Baldwin wouldn’t have stood a chance.

The 2022 midterms saw another victory for Republicans as Senator Ron Johnson battled through a leftist onslaught. Even Governor Tony Evers managed to win, despite his avant-garde legislation that replaced “mother” with the more sterile “inseminated person.” Meanwhile, Republicans held the majority in the Wisconsin legislature and six out of eight Congressional seats, proving the state’s purple status has its merits. But all of that could quickly change if conservatives don’t tighten their grip.

A crucial election looms on April 1, pitting a conservative former Attorney General against a progressive judge with a checkered past. This isn’t just about a court seat; it’s a brawl over values. In 2023, Democrats secured a narrow 4-3 majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, which they swiftly began to transform into a platform for their leftist agenda. The right must rally, as the stakes are as high as they get for a spring election. If the Democrat-backed majority holds, the consequences could ripple through issues from Congressional redistricting to the potential dismantling of Scott Walker’s successful Act 10 reforms.

Act 10 wasn’t just beneficial; it was a triumph for taxpayers, ensuring public employees contributed to their pensions and health insurance for the first time, something most private-sector workers have been doing for ages. Because of this commonsense policy, Wisconsin has saved an astounding $31 billion since its implementation, with many taxpayers finally getting a fair shake. Thanks to Act 10, school districts could explore better insurance options instead of being shackled to a teacher-union monopoly. And what happened to public education and services? They didn’t plummet into chaos, despite union scare tactics. In fact, some districts even saw improved student performance.

However, the recent judicial re-structuring threatens to reverse these monumental gains. With a newly minted left-wing majority, the state’s courts are primed to reinstate union favoritism and tons of taxpayer-funded boondoggles. The left’s recent lawsuits targeting Act 10 showcase how dedicated they are to restoring their power. A left-leaning judge, with as biased an outlook as one could find, struck down this well-loved law. A win for the progressives could mark the beginning of unfettered union influence, draining public funds and boosting costs for taxpayers, while prioritizing union concerns over the needs of families.

The race is heating up, and the need for conservative turnout is apparent. Recent polling shows mixed responses from voters, with Trump’s approval ratings barely scraping by. Despite this, conservatives have a chance to retake the court and dismantle the left’s new power structure. Scott Walker has been raising alarms, reminding the electorate that this election is about more than just a court seat; it’s a battle for the soul of Wisconsin. With the stakes so high, and the left so keen to emerge victorious, it is essential for conservatives to capitalize on voter discontent and show up at the polls. As the countdown to April 1 ticks away, it remains to be seen if the right can overcome obstacles and rally for their values in time to secure a future for the Badger State that favors freedom over control.
