In a recent announcement on Twitter, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) proudly boasted about an “expanded coalition” of lawmakers who support calls for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. However, there’s an important detail that AOC conveniently left out of her announcement. The fact is that Hamas terrorists initiated the recent conflict by deliberately targeting Israeli civilians, resulting in the deaths of over 1,400 innocent people.
AOC and her fellow members of the anti-Israel Squad, led by Rep. Cori Bush, have been pushing for a ceasefire resolution in Congress. But what they fail to acknowledge is what a ceasefire would actually mean for Israel. A halt in hostilities might sound good on the surface, but it would only provide Hamas with an opportunity to regroup, rearm, and continue their attacks on Israel. It’s like asking a person being beaten up to pause the fight while their assailant catches their breath for the next round.
Proud to join my colleges calling for a bilateral ceasefire in Gaza on the basis of grave violations of children's rights. https://t.co/qWj1Q132VJ

It’s also worth noting that AOC’s newfound “coalition” of ceasefire proponents includes Rep. Hank Johnson, who has a history of making outrageous and offensive statements about Jewish people. Johnson once compared Jews living in the West Bank to “termites” and even compared Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman to Donald Trump. AOC conveniently left out this important fact when she praised Johnson’s support for the ceasefire resolution.
It’s clear that AOC and her allies are more concerned with blaming Israel for the violence than holding Hamas accountable for their terrorist actions. They seem to ignore the graphic videos of Hamas carnage, choosing instead to focus on pushing their own misguided narrative. It’s concerning that AOC continues to be supported by her constituents despite her questionable judgment and associations.
Overall, AOC’s announcement on the “expanded coalition” of ceasefire proponents leaves out important details and fails to acknowledge the true nature of the conflict. It’s time for her constituents to reconsider their support and demand better representation for their district.
