Early Sunday morning, the Republican Party headquarters in Albuquerque was hit by a fire. The entryway was badly burned, and smoke filled the building. No one was hurt, but the damage cost thousands of dollars. Words like “ICE = KKK” were spray-painted on the walls. This is the third attack on the GOP office since 2017.
New Mexico GOP Chairwoman Amy Barela called the fire a hate crime. She blamed far-left radicals for the violence. Barela said progressive leaders have stayed silent about attacks on conservatives. This silence, she argued, encourages more violence. She warned that America’s freedoms are under attack by those who want to silence free speech.
Democrats in New Mexico quickly said they oppose vandalism. But Barela pointed out that Democrats have a history of supporting groups like the KKK. She said today’s left-wing activists use fear to control politics. The GOP won’t back down, she promised, and will keep fighting for New Mexico families.
The FBI and ATF are investigating the fire as arson. Fire crews put out the flames in five minutes. Officials found evidence of a Molotov cocktail. Barela praised the firefighters but demanded justice. She said New Mexico’s weak justice system often lets criminals go free.
This isn’t the first time Republicans have been targeted. In 2017, protesters vandalized the same building. In 2020, a Democrat intern was caught spray-painting “still traitors” on the walls. Charges were later dropped. Last year, the office got a bomb threat.
The attackers linked ICE to the KKK, showing their hatred for border security. Conservatives know ICE agents protect our communities. Barela reminded voters that Democrats once supported slavery and Jim Crow laws. Now, she said, they use violence to push their radical agenda.
Barela called on state leaders to punish political violence. She said “cowardly attacks” won’t stop the GOP. New Mexico needs leaders who back the rule of law. Until then, conservatives must stand strong against intimidation.
The Republican Party vows to rebuild and keep working for voters. They say this attack only makes them more determined. American values like free speech and safe communities are worth fighting for. The GOP won’t let extremists burn down democracy.
