Bernie Sanders Bolts from Interview on AOC-Schumer Primary Query

There was a spectacle of hilarity recently when Socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders, who apparently can’t handle a little questioning, decided to make like a fire alarm and abruptly exit an interview. The topic? His left-leaning comrade, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and the potential for her to upstage Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in a primary battle. One can only imagine the tension brewing in the Democratic Party, which has become the political equivalent of a soap opera.

During a broadcast with ABC News, reporter Jonathan Karl had the audacity to inquire whether Sanders thought Ocasio-Cortez would do well in the Senate alongside him. This question is particularly timely given that Ocasio-Cortez has been busy stirring the pot among her peers, suggesting that Schumer isn’t lighting a fire under the Trump administration as adequately as she might like. The left has been whining that Schumer should get the boot for not stopping President Trump in his tracks—funny how that works when control is at stake.

As Sanders waxed poetic about the merits of Ocasio-Cortez, the reporter leaned in for what he thought was a zinger. Not wanting to be painted into a corner regarding his party’s disarray, Sanders quickly threw his hands up, offered a curt farewell, and bolted from his chair like a cat learning to swim. Karl was left flabberghasted, urging the senator to stick around for just “one more important question.” Talk about an epic cringe moment for the left.

While Sanders attempted to backtrack and get a grip on the chaos around him, he chastised Karl for diving into what he deemed “nonsense.” Perhaps Sanders should consider that the joke is on him—fleeing from a question revealing the cracks forming in the Democratic facade isn’t exactly showing strength. He eventually ensured everyone that he was “very happy” being Vermont’s senator, as if any sane person was questioning that.

Despite facing criticism from within his own ranks, the left’s infighting is practically a warm-up act for the grand circus that is their leadership. Ocasio-Cortez, even among her own party members, is viewed with skepticism. State party chairs are whispering that her far-left ideals might be too radical for even Democrats, casting doubt on her chances of leading the charge as the party’s standard-bearer. Even John Fetterman took a jab at her impracticality, indicating that some on the left are getting tired of her antics.

It is abundantly clear that while Ocasio-Cortez may have a fan club among the youth who relish her fringe views, trying to pin her as the party’s future seems like one of those absurd plans destined to flop. She offers more cringe-worthy drama and comic relief than actual substance—think of her more as a fleeting meme in American politics. The Democrats are in a state of disarray that would make even the best comedy writers proud, with Ocasio-Cortez as one of the leading comedians in this tragic play.
