In another episode of the ongoing debate surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Senator Bernie Sanders has accused Israel of committing war crimes while being lenient on the terrorist organization Hamas. This accusation comes in the aftermath of a vicious attack launched by Hamas on Israel, which tragically resulted in the deaths of numerous innocent Israelis, including many civilians who were deliberately targeted by Hamas.
In his statement, Sanders did condemn Hamas for their violent actions, acknowledging that "the gunning down of young Israelis at a music festival is an image the world will not soon forget." However, he swiftly transitioned his focus toward highlighting the challenges faced by Palestinians living under Israeli occupation.
Sanders criticized Israel for their response to the attack, accusing them of imposing a siege on the Gaza Strip and violating international law by withholding basic necessities from Gaza. Notably, he omitted mentioning that Hamas initiated this conflict and carried out heinous acts, including violence against innocent civilians, choosing instead to direct his strongest criticisms at Israel.
The slaughter of innocents is unacceptable #bothsides
Hamas knew their actions would have these repercussions in Gaza.Oct 6, 2023 Govt’s and MSM worldwide support Israel retaliation which kills 232 Palestinians in Gaza.#NeverForget Bernie Sanders 2020

While it is true that the Israel-Gaza conflict involves complex issues, and valid questions can be raised about Israel's government and their handling of the situation, it remains essential to recognize that Hamas is a central actor in this narrative. They instigated the attack, intentionally targeted innocent civilians, and bear responsibility for endangering not only innocent Israelis but also Palestinians.
By downplaying the actions of Hamas and disproportionately assigning blame to Israel, Sanders and others on the left are seen as failing to prioritize the lives of innocent civilians on both sides of the conflict. It is disheartening to observe a U.S. senator engaging in such biased rhetoric and not fully acknowledging the true nature of Hamas' acts of terrorism.
