Biden Aides Considered Replacing Press Secretary Jean-Pierre

Reports have emerged about discussions taking place among President Biden’s top aides about the possibility of replacing White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

The talks, which reportedly occurred last fall, centered around discreetly encouraging Ms. Jean-Pierre to step down from her historic role as the first Black and openly gay person to hold the position. Some sources revealed that efforts were made to have people she knows and trusts discuss with her the idea of leaving and pursuing other career opportunities.

Criticism of Ms. Jean-Pierre focused on her frequent use of prepared responses during press briefings, which some senior officials felt undermined the effectiveness of White House communications, especially as President Biden gets ready for his re-election campaign.

Anita Dunn, a key figure in the White House communications strategy, was said to be contemplating enlisting notable Democratic Party members to offer advice to Ms. Jean-Pierre about possibly considering other options. However, Ms. Jean-Pierre has reportedly made it clear that she intends to stay in her role through the upcoming election.
