The Biden administration has made yet another move in its relentless pursuit of student loan debt forgiveness. In a bold announcement, the Department of Education revealed that it has canceled a whopping $72 million in student loan debt for 2,300 borrowers. The lucky recipients of this generous act of government intervention happen to be students who attended the for-profit school Ashford University, which apparently engaged in some questionable practices.
Undersecretary of Education James Kvaal, who seems to be relishing in his newfound power, wasted no time in casting judgment upon Ashford University. He accused the school of using “high-pressure and deceptive recruiting tactics,” clearly implying that the blame lies solely on the institution itself. While it’s true that some students may have been misled, it’s not fair to absolve them of all responsibility. Personal accountability seems to be a foreign concept to the Biden administration.
This latest move is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the Biden administration’s agenda of student loan debt forgiveness. With over $116 billion already canceled, it’s clear that they have no qualms about burdening taxpayers with the financial mistakes of others. This is not only fiscally reckless but also fundamentally unfair to those who have already paid off their own student loans. Where is their reward for responsible behavior?
It’s no surprise that the Supreme Court struck down Biden’s original student loan forgiveness plan. Even the highest court in the land saw through the smoke and mirrors of this ill-conceived scheme. But that hasn’t stopped the Biden administration from scrambling to find other ways to achieve their desired outcome. Their determination to push through these forgiveness programs, despite the clear opposition and criticism, only serves to highlight their misguided priorities.
The Biden administration can try to spin this as a victory for the students, but it’s nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to court voters ahead of the next election. It’s a calculated move to win over those who supported Biden based on his promise to cancel student loan debt. But at what cost? These actions come at the expense of hard-working American taxpayers who are being asked to foot the bill for the mistakes of others. It’s time for the Biden administration to prioritize fiscal responsibility and fairness over political posturing.
