Kamala Harris recently tried to pull off the political equivalent of a grand slam with a “closing argument” speech for her campaign alongside running mate Tim Walz. It was supposed to be a rallying cry for unity in the face of the impending election, but once again, Joe Biden managed to step on her message with all the grace of a bull in a china shop. Just as Harris was attempting to convince voters that the Democrats are the party of harmony and cooperation, Biden chimed in during a call to the “Vote Latino” group, inadvertently branding Trump supporters as “garbage.”
The striking irony of the event is hard to miss. Harris was on stage positioning herself as the embodiment of unity mere moments after Biden’s words sent ripples of mockery through the conservative sphere. This comes fresh off a weekend of outrage directed at Trump for a comedian’s remark about Puerto Rico, a controversy that the Democratic media apparatus desperately tried to leverage. The goal was clear: paint Trump and his supporters as the villains in a narrative designed to rally disenchanted voters. Yet, Biden flipped that narrative on its head by taking a jab at Trump supporters during a critical moment for Harris.
Harris’s campaign has emphasized the importance of finding common ground, urging voters to see past their differences and come together. Yet, there’s no better illustration of Democratic disarray than the realization that their own President seems completely oblivious to their messaging. With Biden labeling Trump supporters as “garbage,” he unwittingly validated the “enemy” narrative Harris professed to be dismantling. Instead of rallying the troops, Biden has effectively given opposition forces more ammunition to challenge the Democrats’ competency.

Amidst this whirlwind of political missteps, one can’t help but wonder if Biden’s verbal blunders are a calculated effort to undermine Harris outright. There’s an almost comical layer to the way he seems to be ineptly sabotaging the very campaign leadership he’s supposed to support. Instead of boosting morale in his party, his comments may inadvertently serve as a dopamine rush for conservatives who relish the spectacle of a self-destructing campaign.
As Election Day approaches, this latest farce adds to the mounting evidence that the Democrats are struggling to maintain both message and unity within their ranks. While Harris was attempting to sell a vision of togetherness, Biden’s word vomit served as a reminder that, for many in the Democratic Party, unity is merely an election slogan rather than a genuine aspiration. It’s now up to the American electorate to decide if they’re willing to buy into the riddled narrative being sold by a party that can’t even keep its own house in order.
