The 2024 presidential election is shaping up to be a nail-biter, with some delusional folks already prematurely celebrating Joe Biden’s potential reelection. But conservative cheerleaders for former and future President Donald Trump aren’t breaking a sweat just yet. The recent release of a top poll at the national level by the Marquette Law School, located in the crucial swing state of Wisconsin, reveals an intriguing matchup between Biden and Trump.
The poll indicates that Biden has taken a slight lead over Trump among likely voters, with a 52-48 percent advantage. However, when third-party candidates enter the picture, Trump edges out Biden. Notably, Trump’s gains are evident among Independents, a demographic that played a crucial role in Biden’s 2020 victory. It’s a head-scratcher as to how Biden managed to snag a 54-46 percent lead among Independents, considering he’s been tanking in approval ratings in recent months.
Moreover, Biden’s lead among Democrats at 93 percent to Trump’s 88 percent among Republicans might seem impressive on the surface. But when it comes to critical issues like the economy, immigration, and foreign relations, Trump is the preferred candidate for most voters. Despite Biden’s feeble attempts to smear Trump’s position on abortion, it’s apparent that Trump has the upper hand with the electorate on that issue as well.
The polling results on illegal immigration and border control are particularly damning for Biden, with a whopping 47 percent strongly agreeing that the Biden administration’s border policies have created a crisis of uncontrolled illegal migration into the country. When it comes to the voters’ perception of both candidates, a majority feel that Biden is “too old to be president,” and almost a third share the sentiment when it comes to Trump.
While the Marquette poll is an interesting data point, it’s just one of many, and it’s wise for Trump supporters not to get complacent. Biden’s camp, on the other hand, should probably dial back the premature victory lap, especially given the stark contrast in other recent polls, which still show Trump ahead in the race. This election is far from over, and there’s still plenty of time for the tides to turn in Trump’s favor. So, let’s not pop the champagne just yet, folks!
