The recent polls are painting a bleak picture for President Biden as he gears up for the 2024 presidential election. The Wall Street Journal poll indicated that Biden is facing some tough competition from former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election. But it’s not just The Wall Street Journal poll that’s giving Biden a headache. Oh no, the bad news just keeps on coming.
Inflation is rearing its ugly head yet again, and Americans are feeling the pinch in their wallets. The Consumer Price Index showed a 0.1 percent increase in the cost of goods and services, resulting in a 3.1 percent increase over the last 12 months. Ouch! CBS News released a poll highlighting how much Americans are struggling with the economy, with 76 percent saying their income is not keeping up with inflation. And with a measly 30 percent approval rating on inflation, it’s safe to say that Biden is not winning any popularity contests in this area.
But does the president control inflation? Well, a majority of respondents in the poll seem to think so, despite the administration’s attempts to shift blame elsewhere. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre even went as far as blaming the Trump administration for the inflation, despite evidence showing that Trump had a lower inflation rate during his presidency. And with 60 percent of Americans believing that the president can control inflation, it’s clear that this issue is taking a toll on Biden’s approval ratings.
In addition to inflation woes, Biden is also facing disapproval on his handling of economic matters. A whopping 55 percent disapprove of his performance on jobs and unemployment, while 60 percent give him the thumbs down on the overall economy. It’s not looking good for Sleepy Joe!
The folks at CBS News discussed the poll findings on “Face the Nation,” with Director of Elections and Surveys Anthony Salvanto highlighting the ongoing struggle with high prices and stagnant incomes. Salvanto also pointed out that many Americans are unsure of what actions the White House has taken to address these economic challenges, which doesn’t bode well for Biden.
But wait, there’s more! The poll also uncovered Biden’s dismal approval rating on his handling of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, adding insult to injury for the struggling president.
With the election looming just around the corner, Biden’s reelection team is gearing up to combat these damning poll numbers with a whopping $25 million aid campaign. But with Biden trailing in multiple swing states according to various polls, it seems like an uphill battle for the president.
It’s safe to say that Biden is facing some serious headwinds as he sets his sights on another term in the White House. With inflation skyrocketing and economic approval ratings plummeting, it’s going to take more than a multi-million dollar campaign to turn the tide for ol’ Joe. Will he be able to steer the ship in the right direction, or is he headed for stormy seas ahead? Only time will tell.
