Billy Graham Honored with Statue at U.S. Capitol

The renowned Rev. Billy Graham, known for his powerful sermons and frequent counseling of U.S. presidents, will be honored with a 7-foot-tall statue at the U.S. Capitol. The state of North Carolina, where Graham was born, approved the replacement of a statue in the Capitol’s Statuary Hall with one dedicated to Graham back in 2015. After years of delays, the long-awaited statue will finally be unveiled on May 16.

The impressive sculpture, created by North Carolina artist Chas Fagan, depicts Graham gesturing toward an open Bible and is made of bronze and Salisbury granite. The base of the statue includes Bible verses that highlight Graham’s commitment to sharing the Gospel throughout his life. The statue serves as a reminder of God’s love, grace, and forgiveness, according to the Rev. Franklin Graham, who celebrated the honor bestowed upon his father.

Billy Graham, who passed away at the age of 99, spent over 80 years devoted to his ministry and preached the Gospel to millions of people across six continents. He was also known for counseling 12 U.S. presidents and numerous world leaders. Republican North Carolina Sen. Ted Budd emphasized the significance of Graham’s legacy, praising his simple message of forgiveness based on John 3:16. The reverend’s impact was so profound that upon his death in 2018, he became one of the few private citizens to lie in state at the Capitol.
