A recent survey conducted by the Tyson Group, on behalf of the conservative nonprofit organization Building America’s Future, reveals that a majority of voters are in favor of taking a tough stance on China due to national security concerns. The poll indicates that 69 percent of respondents support legislation aimed at reducing China’s control over the U.S. food supply and bolstering American production in key industries such as technology, pharmaceuticals, and transportation.
Chinese President Xi Jinping countered Blinken’s assertions, claiming that the U.S. has unfairly suppressed China’s rise. He stressed the importance of addressing the fundamental issues in the China-U.S. relationship to achieve stability and improvement.
The poll also reflects apprehensions among voters regarding China’s impact on the U.S. food supply, with an emphasis on sourcing ingredients domestically. Ryan Tyson, President and CEO of the Tyson Group, noted that voters are likely to favor candidates who advocate for punishing China rather than acquiescing to its influence.
Blinken linked China to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, highlighting China’s role as the primary provider of critical materials to support Russia’s military actions. He underscored that Russia’s ability to sustain its aggression in Ukraine hinges significantly on China’s support. Blinken suggested the possibility of imposing sanctions against China if it continues to supply Russia with war-related tools.
The poll results also indicate that a majority of respondents support increased oversight of companies engaged in business with China. These findings align with Blinken’s message and underscore growing concerns among the electorate about China’s influence on various aspects of American security and economic resilience.
