In a bold move, Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the federal government. He is seeking conversations between special counsel Jack Smith, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, and the White House. Ramaswamy wants to know more about their decision to charge former President Donald Trump with criminal actions over the 2020 elections. Concerns have been raised about whether this is an attempt to criminalize Trump’s First Amendment rights to speak about the election results.

Ramaswamy, speaking to his followers on X, formerly known as Twitter, stated that he is searching for the truth. He believes there is a “noble lie” being told by the government, meant to discourage Americans from questioning the authenticity of the case against Trump. In front of the courthouse in Washington, D.C., Ramaswamy expressed the belief that the government no longer trusts the people, leading to a lack of trust in return.
As a dark horse candidate, Ramaswamy has previously pledged to pardon President Trump if elected. He has also called on his GOP rivals to make the same pledge. In the upcoming Republican National Committee debate in Milwaukee, Ramaswamy will have the chance to face his rivals and make this request directly. His focus on protecting Trump has gained him popularity in the polls, with his rising numbers eating into the support of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has been struggling to maintain his position in the race.
