Calls for Investigation: Is NYC’s Mamdani’s Citizenship in Jeopardy?

Congressman Andy Ogles put New York mayoral front-runner Zohran Mamdani squarely in the crosshairs this week, telling Newsmax on October 28 that the Department of Justice should open a probe into whether Mamdani’s 2018 naturalization was lawfully obtained and even suggesting denaturalization and deportation if investigators find he hid disqualifying information. This isn’t idle rhetoric — Ogles made his case forcefully on the air, insisting the law is clear that concealing material facts on a naturalization form can render a citizenship illegally procured.

That push follows a formal letter Ogles sent to Attorney General Pam Bondi on June 26 requesting the DOJ review Mamdani’s file for potential willful misrepresentation, a move conservatives should applaud as enforcing the rule of law rather than bowing to partisan sensitivity. Ogles’ letter, which his office publicly posted, cites reporting and specific statements by Mamdani as the basis for asking federal prosecutors to examine whether denaturalization proceedings are warranted.

The most concrete allegation cited by Ogles involves lyrics Mamdani once wrote referencing the “Holy Land Five,” a group tied to a controversial prosecution for providing material support to Hamas — lyrics that Ogles and others say raise serious questions about Mamdani’s sympathies and disclosures when he became a citizen. Conservatives aren’t asking for punishment for speech alone; they’re asking the DOJ to determine whether speech reasonably suggests conduct or affiliations that should have been disclosed during the naturalization process.

Mamdani was indeed naturalized in 2018, two years before his election to the New York State Assembly, and that timeline matters: if material affiliations existed before naturalization, they must be examined, not buried under political correctness. Americans who respect the oath and the Constitution should want a full and fair review so that nobody can manipulate our immigration and citizenship systems to undermine the nation from within.

Predictably, Democrats and activist groups immediately seized on the move and cried Islamophobia and racism, trying to shield Mamdani from scrutiny by weaponizing outrage rather than answering the factual questions raised. Conservatives should not be intimidated by those cries; principled patriotism means treating everyone equally under the law, and that includes asking hard questions about a candidate who has praised problematic figures and refused to clearly reject violent rhetoric.

This is about more than one mayoral race — it’s about national sovereignty, public safety, and the integrity of the citizenship process. If the facts Ogles points to check out under review, the DOJ must act decisively; if they don’t, Mamdani should welcome the chance to clear his name and move on. Hardworking Americans deserve leaders who love this country and obey its laws, not media-fueled sanctuaries for extremism dressed up as progressive politics.
