Representative Cori Bush, a member of the Squad and a Democrat from Missouri, has come under fire for her campaign’s recent expenditures on private security. Despite her vocal support for defunding the police and her affiliation with the Black Lives Matter movement, Bush’s campaign paid her husband, Courtney Merritts, a whopping $17,500 for security services and “wage expenses” during the second quarter of 2023. This is in addition to the $12,500 that Merritts received in the first quarter, bringing the total amount paid to him for private security to $30,000 for the year.
Progressive Liberal Cori Bush Dished Out Massive Amount of Campaign Funds to Her Husband for Security

It’s quite ironic that Bush, who claims to be all about defunding the police, apparently has no problem shelling out large sums of money for her own personal protection. I guess she only wants to defund the police for the rest of us, while she and her husband enjoy the benefits of private security. Talk about double standards!
To make matters even more outrageous, it has been revealed that Bush’s campaign has been regularly sending her husband $2,500 checks every other month, adding up to a grand total of $60,000. And let’s not forget the hundreds of thousands of dollars that Bush’s campaign has paid to PEACE Security, the company providing her with all these security operators. It’s clear that Bush has no issue spending her campaign funds on security, as long as it’s for herself and her husband.
What’s particularly interesting about all of this is that Merritts, despite being paid handsomely for his security services, does not appear in a D.C. database of licensed security specialists. This has raised concerns and led to at least two Federal Election Commission complaints from watchdog groups. It seems that Bush and her campaign have some explaining to do.
This isn’t the first time that Bush’s hypocrisy on the issue of defunding the police has been called out. Last year, she gave an interview in which she advocated for defunding the police while simultaneously acknowledging her own need for private security. She even went as far as asking if people would rather see her dead. It’s quite astonishing that she has the audacity to demand that the American people “suck it up” and accept defunding the police as a necessary policy, while she and her husband enjoy the comfort and security of their own private security team. This kind of hypocrisy is exactly why the American people can’t trust politicians like Cori Bush.
So, while the American people are left to worry about their safety and security under President Joe Biden’s failed policies, Representative Bush is busy writing checks to her own husband for private security. It’s clear where her priorities lie, and it’s definitely not with the people she’s supposed to represent. Hopefully, the FEC will thoroughly investigate these payments and hold Bush accountable for her actions.
