Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, a Democrat, has surprised everyone by actually acknowledging the undeniable truth: the border crisis under President Joe Biden’s leadership is a complete disaster. In a letter to Biden, Pritzker detailed how his sanctuary state has become a prime destination for illegal immigrants, causing a severe strain on Illinois’ resources. It seems even Democrats are waking up to the consequences of open borders.
Unlike the Biden administration, which continues to claim progress despite record-breaking illegal crossings, Pritzker pulls no punches in exposing the truth. He highlights the overwhelming burden placed on Chicago’s already struggling infrastructure due to the influx of asylum seekers. And let’s be clear, the federal government’s lack of intervention and coordination at the border is to blame for this untenable situation.

As Pritzker candidly admits, a staggering 15,000 people have made their way to Illinois in just 13 months. That’s a lot of people relying on the state’s limited resources, especially considering Illinois is still recovering from the economic and health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. To add insult to injury, the state government has been forced to shell out a massive $330 million to provide humanitarian aid, while Chicago had to contribute over $100 million. This is money that should be going towards the needs of hardworking American citizens, not illegal immigrants.
Governor Pritzker is not alone in expressing concerns about the border situation. Even New York Governor Kathy Hochul, also a Democrat, is starting to sound like a Republican. She recently criticized the wide-open border and called for stricter restrictions on who can enter the country. It’s refreshing to see Democrats finally acknowledging the reality that Americans have known all along: open borders simply do not work.
The fact that Democratic governors, like Pritzker and Hochul, are speaking out against the Biden administration’s failures speaks volumes. It’s clear that the border crisis is not a Republican or Democrat issue—it’s an issue affecting all Americans. The Biden administration needs to stop ignoring the consequences of its reckless policies and take immediate action to secure our borders, protect our citizens, and prioritize the needs of hardworking Americans over those who break our laws to enter the country. Our sovereignty and safety depend on it.
