The Washington Examiner reports that Congressman Maxwell Frost of Florida is calling on the Republican lawmakers to introduce a bill that would remove the Statue of Liberty because he’s all up in arms about their support for the Secure the Border Act of 2023. This guy is like, “If you’re gonna support this bill, you might as well take down Lady Liberty! ”
In a hearing, Frost made a big scene, saying, “Don’t welcome them if you plan to reject them,” and demanded the removal of the Statue of Liberty as a response to the Republican bill. He even had an image of the statue behind him on this big red background, like he’s some kind of a dramatic movie villain or something.

He grandly announced his bill with some staffer dramatically pulling down the image of the Statue of Liberty, leaving an empty pedestal. He really went all out with the theatrics, as if he were in some kind of Broadway show. And then he starts reading that poem, “The New Colossus,” like it’s some sort of immigration policy guide. What a showman!
Of course, his little performance didn’t sit well with the conservatives, who promptly called him out on social media. Journalist Guy Benson and Heritage Foundation’s Nile Gardiner were like, “This is ridiculous and stupid.” And they weren’t the only ones. There were plenty of folks mocking his theatrical antics all over the Internet.
In the end, it seems like Frost’s big production fell flat, and everyone saw through his attempts at grandstanding. He would’ve been better off just sticking to making rational arguments instead of trying to take down a national symbol. But I guess that’s just the Democrats for you, always trying to make a scene.
