Democratic Discontent Grows as Biden Embraces Quiet Quitting Approach

The whispers of discontent among the Democratic faithful are becoming quite the cacophony as President Joe Biden appears to have embraced a new term—“quiet quitting.” This phrase, which essentially means doing the bare minimum at work because one just can’t be bothered anymore, seems tailor-made for Biden’s current state of affairs. As murmurs emanate from the inner circles of the Democratic Party, even former aides from the Obama administration are scratching their heads and wondering if the president has thrown in the towel.

Had anyone bothered to check the president’s public calendar lately, they’d find it alarmingly vacant. Aside from an uncharacteristically large wave of clemency—likely an attempt to do something, anything, before riding off into the sunset—Biden’s public engagements have been as rare as a snowstorm in the desert. This noticeable dip in appearances has led some to question if Biden is even interested in finishing his term with any semblance of gusto. The term “leadership vacuum” is being tossed around, and perhaps rightfully so, with many insiders suggesting it feels more like Donald Trump has inexplicably resumed presidential duties in Biden’s absence.

The former Obama aides, like Tommy Vietor, seem to have their hands thrown up in bewilderment. With Biden avoiding the press and failing to challenge Trump as he once did—calling him a “threat to democracy” just before his campaign imploded—the Democrats are feeling a bit anxious. It’s almost as if they have a collective case of buyers’ remorse, realizing they might have been better off letting someone else head the ticket.

One former aide even expressed frustration—not only at Biden’s lackluster farewell tour but also at the evident impact his erratic leadership has had on public perception. After all, it’s hard to argue about an “existential threat to democracy” while making handshakes and grinning with that very threat. Maybe there were countless significant moments left for Biden to seize, but instead, it seems he has chosen to do as little as possible, as if to send the message that he’s merely waiting for the time to tick away until he can finally leave the White House.

Reports of a bitter Biden grappling with his faded influence—a bitterness stemming from pressure to step aside after his disastrous debate performance—paint a picture of a man resigned to his fate. While many may scoff at his belief that he could have won a second term, it’s clear there’s a cloud of regret hanging over him. Nonetheless, just because the façade might be showing signs of a president on auto-pilot doesn’t mean the wheels aren’t still turning behind the scenes. After all, one does have to wonder who is really in charge when Biden has seemingly given up the ghost.

In the end, while “quiet quitting” may just be a trendy phrase for those on the left, it seems to fit Biden’s approach perfectly. With the Democrats wondering who is to blame for this lack of enthusiasm, perhaps they should take a good hard look at their own party’s decision to nominate a man who now appears to be dreaming of the days when he could at least give a decent speech rather than just play the role of the invisible man in the Oval Office.
