In a stunningly ignorant and politically correct statement, Democratic Washington Rep. Pramila Jayapal claimed that America needs immigrants because they “pick the food we eat,” “clean our homes,” and “rebuild our communities after climate disasters.” It’s almost as if Jayapal thinks Americans are not capable of doing these jobs themselves. This kind of thinking is not only insulting to Americans, but it’s also insulting to immigrants who come to this country looking for something better than just picking fruit or cleaning homes.

What’s worse is that Jayapal is blaming President Trump’s policies for our immigration crisis, instead of taking responsibility for her own party’s failures. It’s no secret that Democrats have been pushing for open borders and amnesty for illegal immigrants for years, which only encourages more people to come here illegally. This is not compassion or kindness, this is reckless and dangerous.

It’s also important to note that some Republicans, including Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, have called out Jayapal for her gross generalizations of immigrants. Luna, who is the first Mexican-American woman voted into Congress from Florida, said that Jayapal’s remarks are the reason why so many Hispanics leave the Democratic Party for the GOP. It’s refreshing to see Republicans stand up for what’s right instead of caving to politically correct pandering.
Meanwhile, the federal government is still struggling to deal with the influx of migrants entering the US via the southern border. And while Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas disagrees with Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz’s testimony about the security situation at the border, the reality is that our border is being overrun with people who have no right to be here. Our communities are suffering because of this crisis, and it’s time for Democrats like Jayapal to stop making excuses and start taking action to secure our borders and protect our citizens.
