Senior Democrats have found themselves on their knees, figuratively speaking, beseeching President Biden for a massive amnesty blitz before he vacates the Oval Office. In a frantic bid to cushion the expected fallout after Donald Trump’s inauguration, they are clamoring for the president to roll out expedited deportation amnesties for as many countries as he can manage. This latest development seems to confirm what many have suspected all along: when it comes to immigration, the panic button is always close at hand for those on the left.
Led by Senate stalwart Dick Durbin from Illinois, these lawmakers penned yet another letter urging Biden to take bold, unilateral action. With the inauguration clock ticking down, the Dems are sweating bullets over what a second Trump term could mean for “immigrant families.” Apparently, the idea of enforcing existing immigration laws sends shivers down their spine. They are not asking, they are demanding that Biden complete the “important work” of the past administration—presumably, the work of expanding the footprint of illegal immigration in the name of compassion.
Hell no
Dems Demand Biden ‘Get as Many Migrants into Country as Possible’ Before Trump Inauguration
— MAGA Marine (@Butch_britton1) December 10, 2024
Their wish list includes speeding up asylum claims, automatic work permit renewals for unauthorized migrants, and invoking measures like Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforced Departure for as many illegal immigrants as possible. While these tools are intended for dire circumstances in individuals’ home countries, Democrats have transformed them into shields against the dreaded prospect of a Trump administration reviving the idea of “mass deportations.” Because nothing says “legality” quite like bending the rules to fit a political narrative.
If one thinks about it, this latest push is a classic case of political theatrics. In early 2021, just before Trump packed his bags, around 320,000 individuals were benefitting from TPS. Fast forward to the present, and that number has jumped to more than 860,000. That’s quite the spike, and the irony is rich coming from a party that paints itself as the bastion of lawfulness. They are not just trying to maintain existing protections; they are advocating for an outright revolution against the immigration system itself.
Additionally, the senators are sounding the alarm bells for “Dreamers,” pressuring Biden to extend protections under the Obama-era DACA program. The urgency of their missive highlights a legitimate fear: that once Trump returns, the days of rolling out the welcome mat for illegal immigrants may come to an abrupt end. Their game plan even includes allowing DACA recipients the chance to exit and re-enter the U.S. on a golden ticket to citizenship—because who wouldn’t want to hand permanent residency to those who illegally crossed the border?
In essence, this Democratic plea highlights a deeper truth: the left feels backed into a corner as the Trump era looms once again. Their fixation on securing as many concessions for illegal immigrants as possible before the conservative resurgence showcases their belief that political survival outweighs the rule of law. So, while they scramble to “lock in” protections for undocumented migrants and unleash funds like there’s no tomorrow, one can’t help but wonder: will they ever learn that rules are supposed to mean something?
