Joe Biden seems more convinced than ever that he’s invincible despite the mountains of evidence to the contrary. That’s right — instead of gracefully stepping aside for the good of his party (and the nation), Biden is adamant he’s running for re-election. Democrats might cringe and wish for a speedy miracle, but instead, they’re left with the slow-motion disaster that’s Biden’s campaign. Let’s face it, Biden trailing Trump in all the battleground states is no small matter. It’s a pattern that spells out nothing but trouble for the Democrats hoping for a blue wave.
Behind the scenes, key players like Obama are rallying to get Biden out of the race. Yet the President seems unfazed, channeling his inner Wolf of Wall Street, insisting he’s here to stay. Not quite the show of leadership one would expect, but hey, it’s Biden. His communication with congressional leaders is almost non-existent, a stark indicator of where his priorities lie. On a recent call with the White House’s political director and campaign staff, Biden reiterated his refusal to step down. Apparently, Biden loves a good fight, even if defending his tanking numbers and questionable health has become an Olympic sport for his team.

But here’s the kicker — the upheaval within the White House staff has hit a fever pitch. Officials are grappling with vague directives and little clarity from senior leadership. The fallout from the disastrous debate against Trump has permeated all levels, leaving staffers bewildered and frustrated. So what’s the grand strategy from Biden’s camp? According to Zients on a conference call, it’s to “keep moving forward” and “hold your head high.” Translation: Smile and wave, boys, smile and wave.

It’s a textbook case of trying to polish a tarnished image with optimistic cheerleading. It’s “head down, keep at it” from the ranks of Biden’s campaign — as if ignoring the glaring issues will somehow make them disappear. It’s a plan about as solid as a house of cards in a hurricane. There’s an almost comical extent to how much Biden’s handlers have to crow about the President’s supposed accomplishments, all while dodging the fallout from his recent performances and constant health concerns.

Of course, the murmurs about replacing Biden aren’t going away anytime soon, not while his numbers continue to plummet and his age remains an unavoidable topic. The Democratic Party’s rules conveniently adopted in 2022 showcase just how prepared some are for a change. In the meanwhile, America watches with popcorn in hand, wondering just how long Biden’s charade can last. Spoiler alert: It won’t be pretty.
