In a classic case of political theatrics, Democrats once again attempted to twist the impeachment inquiry of Joe Biden into an opportunity to attack Donald Trump. Ignoring the mounting evidence of Biden’s corruption, the Democrats dismissed the hearing as a political sham and spent their time shrieking about Trump and attacking Republicans over a possible government shutdown. It’s scandalous to use impeachment to establish a counterfeit moral equivalence between President Biden, an honorable public servant, and the twice impeached President Trump.
House Oversight ranking member Jamie Raskin set the breathless tone of the hearing by whining about Republicans trying to establish a false “moral equivalence” between Biden and Trump. Raskin went on to mention Trump’s multiple bogus indictments, conveniently ignoring the fact that Biden has faced no such charges in his career spanning over 50 years in public life. Meanwhile, Raskin compared Republicans to a “foreign enemy” and displayed a clock counting down the time until a government shutdown, all for dramatic effect.
The Democrats accused Republicans of doing Trump’s bidding by rehashing “debunked” allegations against Biden. However, they failed to specify who or what had actually “debunked” these allegations. It seems they’re relying on smoke and mirrors rather than presenting factual evidence. Even Raskin attempted to dredge up Trump’s first impeachment by moving to subpoena Rudy Giuliani, but Republicans saw through this tactic and blocked it. It’s clear that the Democrats’ obsession with Trump knows no bounds.
Republicans, on the other hand, released a new text revealing that Hunter Biden was broke and needed his father’s help to pay his alimony. This is just the latest piece of evidence that Joe Biden’s finances were indeed entangled with his son and his questionable business dealings. Chairman James Comer made it clear in his opening statement that Joe Biden had already been caught lying about never discussing business with his son. But the White House, along with Biden’s media cheerleaders, have moved the goalposts to protect him.
While Democrats denied the existence of a “smoking gun,” Republicans presented evidence in the form of bank records showing a $260,000 check from China to Hunter Biden, with his father’s home listed as the address. Yet, Democrats continue to deflect and deny, refusing to acknowledge the mounting pile of evidence against Joe Biden and his family. It’s clear that no matter how much evidence comes to light, they will continue with their strategy of deflection and denial.
Republicans aren’t backing down, though. Chairman Comer concluded the hearing by warning that they would subpoena more bank records from Hunter Biden and Joe’s brother James Biden. It’s time to cut through the thicket of lies and tell the American people the truth. The Democrats’ circus act won’t distract us from their corruption and the need for accountability. The American people deserve better than this political spectacle.
