Senate Democrats are once again flexing their power to target conservatives, this time setting their sights on GOP mega-donor Harlan Crow and other conservative allies. Led by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Sen. Richard Durbin, the Democrats are moving to subpoena Crow, Leonard Leo, and Robin Arkley II as part of their effort to impose an ethics code on the Supreme Court. These subpoenas are expected to be authorized in a close vote, with the committee consisting of 11 Democrats to 10 Republicans.
The Democrats are desperate to force these men to testify so they can push through legislation aimed at imposing a code of ethics on the Supreme Court. Durbin and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, the chair of the subcommittee on federal courts, issued a statement calling on Chief Justice John Roberts to adopt a binding code of conduct. However, since Roberts has refused to act, they are taking matters into their own hands.
This assault on conservative allies comes after months of back-and-forth between Senate Democrats and Harlan Crow. The Democrats have been pressuring Crow to provide detailed information about his relationship with Justice Clarence Thomas. Crow’s attorneys have declined to answer these inquiries, citing a separation of powers conflict.

Meanwhile, the scrutiny on Justice Thomas continues, with news articles questioning his financial disclosures and his friendship with Crow. ProPublica, in particular, has been on a mission to dig up dirt on Thomas, reporting that Crow paid private school tuition for Thomas’ great-nephew and took luxury vacations with the justice.
In response to the Democrats’ subpoena threats, Crow released a statement, expressing disappointment and calling out their partisan motives. He made it clear that he would not be bullied by politicians and remained committed to respectful cooperation.
Leonard Leo, another conservative ally being targeted, also fired back, accusing the Democrats of “vile and disgusting liberal McCarthyism” aimed at destroying the Supreme Court. He noted that their requests appeared to be political retaliation, violating the Constitution.
It’s no surprise that Democrats are going after conservative allies and trying to impose an ethics code on the Supreme Court. They see the court as a roadblock to their radical agenda and will stop at nothing to undermine its credibility. Fortunately, conservatives like Crow and Leo are standing strong and refusing to be intimidated by these politically motivated attacks.
