DeSantis Leads Evacuation of 700 Americans from Haiti Amid Turmoil

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis proclaimed that the state has successfully brought back more than 700 Americans from Haiti to Florida as part of the evacuation operations directed by the GOP governor. Despite the federal government’s lack of cooperation, DeSantis expressed his pride in Florida’s commitment to helping Americans in need. The ongoing turmoil in Haiti, with widespread gang control and violent attacks, has prompted the evacuation efforts.

DeSantis’s office stated that the rescued Americans have been provided with essential resources such as food, water, medical treatment, and transportation back home. The state’s Division Executive Director, Kevin Guthrie, commended the hard work of the State Emergency Response Team, private, and nonprofit partners in facilitating the safe return of the evacuees. This marks the second instance during the Biden administration in which Florida, under DeSantis’s leadership, has rescued Americans from abroad during times of crisis, the first being the evacuation of over 700 Americans from Israel after an attack by Hamas.
