Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has revealed his biggest regret as he faces off in the Republican presidential primary against former President Donald Trump. In a recent interview with CBN News’ David Brody, DeSantis expressed his wish that Trump had not been indicted on various charges, claiming it distorted the atmosphere of the GOP primary.
DeSantis went on to argue that the criminal indictments of Trump shifted the focus away from other important issues and candidates, ultimately crowding out the space for meaningful discussion and debate within the party. He appeared to question the legitimacy of the charges, blaming Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and alleging that the case against Trump was politically motivated, pointing fingers at the billionaire George Soros as the puppeteer behind the scenes.

In light of Trump’s legal troubles and his consistent lead in polling, some have already labeled the 2024 primary as a foregone conclusion. Polling aggregates compiled by Real Clear Polling show Trump leading DeSantis by a commanding 51 points, with a straw poll at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest conference indicating an even more substantial 75-point lead for Trump over DeSantis.
Despite being initially seen as a credible alternative to Trump, DeSantis has not seen significant success in his campaign so far, with the Iowa caucuses looming. However, DeSantis remains confident in his ability to outperform former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and potentially even Trump in a general election. He expressed optimism about his chances in Iowa and his ability to secure victory in a potential general election.
So, should DeSantis drop out of the race? Well, according to DeSantis, the answer is a resounding no. He believes he can upset the predicted outcome and emerge as a strong contender, challenging Trump and any other GOP hopeful in his path.
It seems like the battle for the Republican nomination is heating up, and DeSantis is prepared to take on the challenge, despite the odds stacked against him. Will he be able to overcome the dominating presence of Trump in the primary race? Only time will tell.
