Late Saturday, a tragic incident occurred near the White House in which a vehicle crashed into an outer perimeter gate. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while President Joe Biden was away in Delaware for the weekend. The identity of the driver has not been disclosed, and the Secret Service reported that the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when the incident took place.

According to the Secret Service, there was no threat to the White House or public safety. The Metropolitan Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into the crash, which is being classified as a traffic accident at this time. Limited traffic closures are still in place as the Secret Service, along with the D.C. Fire and EMS and Metropolitan Police Department, continue their investigation.
This is not the first time a vehicle has collided with the White House gate, with a similar incident occurring in January at the same location. The man driving the vehicle in the recent crash was reported to have mental health challenges, as indicated by CBS.
