The Hillary Clinton affair was just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the credibility problems of our federal law enforcement institutions. Our Justice Department and FBI, once thought to be politically-neutral arbiters, have shown their true colors with the release of the Durham report. This report, along with the recently leaked audio tape, has exposed the deep-rooted corruption within these institutions.
Let’s start with the audio tape that was aired by CNN. Former President Trump, in an interview with Fox News, claimed that there was no document to declassify when discussing classified materials he allegedly showed to non-eligible guests. However, the audio tape tells a different story. Trump can be heard boasting about a “big pile of papers” that came from the Department of Defense and a four-star General. He even acknowledges that these papers are “highly confidential” and “secret information.” It’s clear that Trump was discussing sensitive and classified documents, despite his attempted defense.
This audio tape is damning evidence that Trump unlawfully retained classified information. It’s a smoking gun that proves he showed documents that were never declassified and remain secret. CBS has even reported that the specific document mentioned in the tape is not among the charges Trump is facing. This raises questions about the thoroughness of the indictment.

Of course, Trump’s loyal followers may try to dismiss this evidence or come up with excuses, but the fact remains that he blatantly violated the law. It’s disheartening to see that some Republicans are willing to overlook these actions, even if it means alienating crucial swing voters. The party needs to choose a candidate who can defeat an unpopular incumbent president, not someone who is even less popular.
These new developments only exacerbate the already existing perception that Republicans are turning a blind eye to corruption. Voters have sent a clear message in multiple election cycles, and it’s time for the party to listen. Ignoring these concerns will only drive away key voters and hinder the chances of a Republican victory.
It’s crucial that the party takes a stand against corruption and holds its members accountable. The American people deserve better than politicians who prioritize their personal interests over the rule of law. It’s time for a new era of integrity and transparency in our political system.
