Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell, who was just removed from his seat on the House Intelligence Committee due to his involvement in a sexual connection with a Chinese spy, finds himself embroiled in another controversy. The new scandal centers around accusations of misusing campaign funds. The Washington Free Beacon has reported that Swalwell spent a greater amount of money than ex House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on luxury accommodations and travel. Additionally, he may face an ethics complaint for using campaign funds to pay for child care expenses.

It appears that Swalwell has been using funds contributed by donors as his own personal piggy bank. In 2021, he reportedly paid over $17,000 to a household member for child care, spent $20,000 at the Ritz-Carlton in the Bay Area, where his wife had been employed, and spent tens of thousands of dollars on non-campaign-related expenses such as “catering” and “refreshments” at exclusive clubs and restaurants. When asked about these allegations, Swalwell dismissed them and tried to shift attention away from the issue by claiming that his opponents were planning another insurrection.
Swalwell has also been advocating for taxpayers to cover student loans, yet he himself has yet to pay down his own law school loans, which he took out in 2006. He also owes around $15,001 to $50,000 in credit card debt to Chase Bank and around $10,000 to $15,000 in debt to American Express. On top of that, he carries two mortgages, one around $100,001 to $250,000 and the other around $500,001 to $1,000,000.
It is clear that Congressman Swalwell is not practicing what he preaches. Instead of being accountable for his own financial decisions, he is attempting to shift the blame onto others and distract from the issue. This is yet another example of how liberal politicians are willing to do anything to get away with their wrongdoings. It is time for Congressman Swalwell to take responsibility for his actions and stop using taxpayer dollars as his own personal piggy bank.
