In a bold move, Republican members of the House Homeland Security Committee are grilling Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to come clean about the shocking release of migrants on the federal government’s “Terrorist Watch List” into the United States.
Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) and Representatives Clay Higgins (R-LA) and August Pfluger (R-TX) are not holding back in their demand for answers. They want Mayorkas to provide a top-secret briefing on the reported cases of migrants known to be on the Terrorism Watch List being set free within the country’s borders.

The first jaw-dropping case involves a member of the U.S.-designated foreign terrorist organization al-Shabaab. This dangerous individual was nabbed illegally crossing the southern border near San Ysidro, California and, unbelievably, was let loose into the interior after being labeled a “mismatch.” It took nearly a year for the Terrorist Screening Center to realize their blunder and confirm this person’s terrifying affiliation, prompting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to finally track him down and arrest him.
The second alarming incident centers on a Pakistani man, also allegedly on the terrorist watch list, who illegally entered the United States and was captured by Border Patrol the next day. Shockingly, ICE then decided to release him through the Alternatives to Detention program, despite the Terrorist Screening Center swiftly confirming his place on the watchlist.
The Republican congressmen are not mincing words as they express their deep concern over these unsettling reports of migrants believed to have terror ties being apprehended at the border or found within the country. And rightfully so! They also point to FBI Director Christopher Wray’s recent testimony, where he sounded the alarm over the potential for human smuggling networks with connections to ISIS infiltrating the U.S.
In a scathing rebuke, the congressmen are calling out DHS for its questionable practices when it comes to dealing with known or suspected terrorists intercepted at the Southwest border. Their skepticism is warranted, especially given the lawsuit accusing Mayorkas of stonewalling requests for information on hundreds of migrants on the Terrorism Watch List.
Since President Joe Biden assumed office, more than 300 migrants on the Terrorism Watch List have been nabbed trying to cross the southern border. This is a clear indication that the Biden administration’s lax border and immigration policies are putting national security at risk.
The situation is dire, and Republicans aren’t backing down in their demand for transparency from the DHS. The American people deserve to know the truth about how the government is handling potential security threats at the border. Will Mayorkas step up and provide the answers the committee is demanding, or will the DHS continue to dodge accountability?
