Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX) suggested that leaks from GOP members are undermining the Republican Party’s negotiating strategy with Democrats. According to Jackson, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is facing resistance from Republican members regarding the legislation for Ukraine aid. The House will soon decide on providing aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. In February, the Senate passed a foreign aid bill that included $60 billion for Ukraine.

Jackson expressed his frustration, stating, “I think it’s unfortunate that Speaker Johnson is kind of in an unwinnable position right now.” He went on to criticize leaks within the Republican conference, claiming that these leaks undermine the party’s strategy and force them to start over multiple times. Jackson believes that the leaks are making it difficult for the party to push through their agenda.
Moreover, Jackson voiced his opposition to providing additional aid to Ukraine. He warned that if the House votes on the Senate’s bill, it could pose a problem. Jackson explained that bringing the bill to the floor under suspension of the rules would require two-thirds of the votes, potentially relying on Democrats for support. He lamented that this gives Democrats leverage and pushes most Republicans away from voting for the bill.
