Harris, Clyburn Rally for Biden in SC Amid Primary Turmoil

Vice President Kamala Harris is set to visit Columbia, South Carolina, this Friday, joining forces with Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) to ensure President Joe Biden's prominent presence on the state's Democratic presidential primary ballot. South Carolina played a pivotal role in rejuvenating Biden's 2020 primary campaign, thanks to Clyburn's support and the backing of black voters, ultimately propelling him to secure the Democratic nomination and, subsequently, the presidency.

White House officials have confirmed that Harris and Clyburn will address necessary paperwork shortly after 10 a.m. to formalize Biden's candidacy in the state. A Biden campaign spokesman expressed gratitude, acknowledging South Carolina Democrats as the backbone of the party and emphasizing the state's crucial role in Biden's political journey.

Biden's decision to elevate South Carolina in the Democratic primary schedule as a gesture of appreciation to black voters has unexpectedly sparked a new challenge. Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) entered the presidential race shortly after Biden opted out of New Hampshire's "rogue" primary ballot.

Despite attempts by Biden and the Democratic National Committee to alter the primary calendar, New Hampshire is resisting compliance. The state's Secretary of State, citing a law mandating it as the first presidential primary, is steadfast in adhering to the tradition. While a strong showing from Phillips or other candidates on the primary ballot might not translate to delegates at the Democratic National Convention, it poses a potential challenge to Biden's support throughout the election cycle. Despite the boost Biden received from South Carolina, these developments present new hurdles for his candidacy.
