Hunter Biden Attorneys Accused of Misleading Court in Tax Case

Hunter Biden’s legal team, led by attorneys Mark Geragos and Abbe Lowell, seems to be playing a game of word gymnastics worthy of Olympic medals. A California judge recently slammed the duo with accusations of making false statements and may even bring down the gavel of sanctions upon them. This fallout arose from their claims regarding the timeline of charges brought by U.S. Attorney David Weiss. Of course, one has to wonder if these charges might feel rather familiar to anyone watching the spectacle of high-profile legal maneuvers in the Biden family saga.

Hunter’s attorneys argued that their reference to “charges” was nothing more than some splendidly selective phrasing. It appears they meant to convey something along the lines of “current charges” instead of implying that no charges had been levied against the first son prior to Weiss being appointed as special counsel. Lawyers do love their semantics, after all. In a legal circus, the tightrope walk of context matters, or so they claim. What they perhaps forgot is that judges prefer clarity over creative interpretations.

The judge’s stern observation that Geragos and Lowell displayed significant “misstatements” came in light of their request to dismiss Biden’s tax indictment, advocating that Weiss’s appointment itself was illegal. Their narrative conveniently overlooked the crucial fact that Weiss had already attempted to bring charges against Hunter in June 2023, well before he donned the special counsel’s hat. This oversight has led legal experts to raise eyebrows. It’s almost like the attorneys were attempting a magic trick—now you see the charges, now you don’t.

In defense of their legal acrobatics, Biden’s attorneys contended that distinguishing between charges brought via an information and those brought through an indictment should earn them some leeway. However, anyone observing can see that this distinction seems less about legal clarification and more about ducking accountability. After all, who needs clear communication when you can just hope the judge finds your wordplay clever enough to let it slide?

As the legal drama unfolds, it’s coincidental that Biden’s team took the opportunity to file their dismissal request after Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed former President Trump’s classified documents charges due to issues surrounding the special counsel’s appointment. It begs the question: is this a case of following the legal trend or simply losing the script altogether? Whatever the case, the stakes are high for Biden, whose trial is set to kick off on September 9. One can only imagine the amount of caffeine consumed at Biden’s legal camp as they attempt to untangle this web of accusations and misstatements.
