Hunter Biden’s Charges Fuel House Investigation: Will Dems Pay?

Kevin McCarthy, the Republican House Speaker from California, has recently commented on Hunter Biden’s deal on three federal charges and suggested that this could only “enhance” the House’s ongoing investigation relating to his alleged bribery scheme. These remarks were shared immediately after Hunter Biden’s charges were made public.

In relation to the matter, McCarthy stated that the Department of Justice must now be able to freely provide any information that Chairman Comer may require. “How can Hunter Biden plead guilty, receive no jail time, and yet the DOJ says there is still an investigation, and may even hide information from the House?” This question is crucial to understand, and we must remember that this inconsistency is wholly unacceptable, and it will no longer stand.

The House Oversight Committee’s Chairman, Comer, entirely agrees with this viewpoint. According to him, Hunter Biden’s charges reveal that justice is subject to a two-tiered system. “Hunter Biden is getting away with a slap on the wrist when growing evidence uncovered by the House Oversight Committee reveals the Bidens engaged in a pattern of corruption, influence peddling, and possibly bribery.” Comer’s responses highlight the potential pattern of corruption that existed involving the Bidens, especially considering that Hunter managed to secure a plea deal to walk away from, albeit serious, criminal charges.

As Fox News puts it, “That lofty ideal chiseled on the pediment of the U.S. Supreme Court was blown to shreds with the indefensible plea deal for Hunter Biden that allows him to skate on severe criminal charges that would have landed anyone else in America behind bars. The preferential treatment for the president’s son makes a mockery of the law.” The report is undoubtedly a clarion call of the inadequacy of the Department of Justice concerning cases with celebrities that hold political influence.

Conservative Republicans have always been wary of any wrongdoing relating to the Bidens, particularly given the scrutiny they faced leading up to the 2020 presidential election. The revelation of Hunter’s charges raises questions about any other misdeeds that may involve the president and his son. The House Republicans will continue their investigation of the Biden’s actions, and if more suspicious instances do indeed surface, this could affect the 2024 election, especially if former President Trump runs again. Nothing is definitive yet, but the fact that the investigation is progressing should worry both the current and former Presidents.
