Kristi Noem’s Leadership Revitalizes DHS Border Security Efforts

The Department of Homeland Security has finally traded in the previous administration’s apathy for a breath of fresh air in the form of Secretary Kristi Noem. Her predecessor, Alejandro Mayorkas, might as well have been a stuffed shirt in a corner office, spending more time spinning tales about the southern border than actually addressing the flood of illegal immigration pouring into the country. No one needs to be reminded that under Mayorkas, Border Patrol looked less like defenders of the border and more like doormen at a nightclub letting in the wrong crowd.

Noem, on the other hand, has taken a hard stand against lawbreakers. She recently found herself face-to-face with an “18th Street Gangbanger” who was apprehended after re-entering the U.S. This criminal, who evidently thought it wise to break laws while introducing poor life choices to his children, got a scolding he won’t forget anytime soon. Noem’s firm approach not only made the thug apologize for his crimes but also attempted to teach him a lesson about setting a good example. One can only imagine the disbelief on his face; it’s a stark contrast to the “do what you want, we won’t enforce the law” attitude of Mayorkas.

This recent encounter revealed just how things are changing under Noem’s leadership. Apparently, she thinks calling out criminals while they are still in cuffs is a better use of her time than holding fancy press conferences that result in empty promises. It’s refreshing to see someone in her position take the gloves off. The man was seen puffing on a joint—nothing screams responsibility like lighting up before facing deportation. Perhaps he thought a bit of green would help his case; spoiler alert: it doesn’t.

Noem’s recent activities have included multiple crackdowns on criminal illegal immigrants, with her latest escapade targeting human traffickers and murderers in Arizona. Armed and ready for action, she stood proud with ICE agents, sending a clear message: illegal entry and crime won’t be tolerated. It’s as if she’s saying, “We’ve got laws for a reason, and you’re not above them.” The stark difference in leadership styles between Noem and Mayorkas becomes even clearer in this context; one is actively fighting crime, while the other was busy pretending crime didn’t exist.

Noem has firmly stated that illegal immigrants will face removal and prosecution. And unlike the previous management, who could talk endlessly without securing a single border, Noem is actually implementing the tools necessary to keep America safe. If only Mayorkas had followed a similar script, the U.S. might not be in its current predicament. Keep rooting for Noem as she stands tall and takes aim at those encroaching upon American sovereignty. One thing is certain: as long as she’s in charge, the days of letting criminals roam free are over.
