Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna says she was physically struck by a CODEPINK organizer as she left a House hearing Wednesday, and she has formally reported the incident to Capitol Police as she pursues criminal charges. The Florida Republican, a former Air Force veteran who has repeatedly demanded accountability from activist groups she suspects of foreign ties, insists the shove crossed a clear line of civility and safety for members of Congress.
Video shared around the incident shows a CODEPINK co‑founder walking alongside Luna and making contact with her arm as the congresswoman tried to move away from a line of questioning. Luna told reporters the activist surrounded her and “smacked” her arm, and she says investigators now have footage and witness statements that support her account.
Unsurprisingly, CODEPINK has pushed back, saying the clip does not show an assault and insisting nobody hit the congresswoman, while some outlets say activists were briefly detained and later released without immediate charges. The ambiguity of the left’s excuses won’t fool Americans who’ve watched the playbook for years: when the mob gets close enough to intimidate, excuses and denials follow.
This episode is emblematic of a larger problem — a leftist activist culture that mistakes harassment for political engagement and is given a free pass by too many in the media and establishment. Rep. Luna has already been vocal about banning CODEPINK from Capitol grounds and probing alleged foreign funding channels that enable these actors; Congress must move from talk to action to protect lawmakers and the integrity of the institution.
Pressing charges is the right course: law enforcement should treat an assault the same whether it’s committed by a left‑wing protester or anyone else, and political positions cannot become a shield for criminal behavior. If the Capitol is to remain a functioning place of debate rather than a stage for harassment, leadership must make clear there are consequences for crossing members’ personal boundaries.
