A former mentor of Kevin McCarthy criticized the aspiring House speaker in an interview published this week.
"Bill Thomas, who used to work for McCarthy, said that the former congressman would lie and that he was incapable of being trusted with his word. He also claimed that McCarthy would change his story if necessary."
Thomas also went after his former friend and former employee. This wasn't the first time he had targeted these individuals.
During the riots that occurred at the US Capitol on January 6, Thomas criticized McCarthy. He said that the former congressman's ambition for a leadership role prevented him from criticizing Donald Trump.
The allegations against McCarthy by Thomas, who represented the same district in California as McCarthy, come as the former congressman is trying to become the next House speaker.
The conservative House Freedom Caucus has demanded that Congress change the rules in order to support McCarthy in the upcoming leadership elections.
Despite the recent controversies, McCarthy still managed to anger some members of his own party due to his deference toward Trump.
Thomas and other critics believe that McCarthy is playing both sides of the political spectrum.
